Cupressus sempervirens, commonly known as the Italian Cypress or Pencil Pine, is a tall, slender, evergreen conifer admired for its columnar growth habit. Native to the Mediterranean region, it is a symbolic tree of Tuscany and classical landscapes, often planted in rows along avenues, courtyards, or as dramatic vertical accents in gardens.
The tree features dense, dark green, scale-like foliage held tightly against its upright branches, giving it a distinctive pencil-like shape. Extremely hardy and long-lived, the Italian Cypress is also drought-tolerant once established, making it well-suited for warm, dry climates.
