Bowiea volubilis, commonly known as the climbing onion or sea onion, is a fascinating and unique bulbous plant that brings an exotic touch to any garden. This deciduous climber naturally grows to heights of 3-4 meters, gracefully winding through surrounding vegetation or cascading over rocky hillsides in its native habitat.
What makes Bowiea volubilis truly special is its unusual growth habit. Unlike traditional onions, this plant produces delicate, twining stems that seek out support as they grow, creating an ornamental display of green foliage throughout the growing season. The bulb itself is distinctive—a pale, papery-skinned sphere that sits partially above soil level, adding visual interest even when the plant is dormant.
This rare bulb thrives in well-draining soil and prefers bright, indirect light. It's an excellent choice for gardeners looking to cultivate something truly different, whether grown in containers, hanging baskets, or trained along trellises and supports. The climbing onion is relatively low-maintenance once established, making it accessible for both experienced collectors and adventurous beginners.
Each order includes a complimentary Phytosanitary Certificate, ensuring your bulb meets all international shipping requirements and arrives in optimal condition. We're committed to providing healthy, high-quality specimens that are ready to thrive in your garden.
